Holiday House Transformed to Celebrate Easter

by CiCi

The Easter season has arrived, and one Bay Ridge home is already decked out in an extravagant display to celebrate the holiday.

For over three decades, Roy Jensen, a lifelong resident of Bay Ridge, has transformed his home at 635 79th St. into a holiday spectacle. Since 1989, he has dedicated hours, sometimes up to 20, preparing for each season’s decorations. His passion for holiday decorating started small but has since grown into a local tradition.

“It was not much, but now it’s a really big thing,” Jensen said. “It’s bigger for the people that come to see it and take pictures. We had kids that were born here, and their moms walked them here. Now they are grown up and 20 to 30 years old. It’s not just done for the kids. The adults love it too. A lot of older people come here.”

After his large St. Patrick’s Day display, Jensen spent just five days transforming his house into an Easter wonderland. The decorations include signs, colorful eggs, bunnies, and bright lights surrounding the house.

“Easter came out really great,” Jensen remarked. “I was a little worried because I’ve been hunting for decorations for months, but I’m happy with how it turned out. I try to put new stuff up each year. I’m always looking for decorations. The bunnies and the lighting are great, and the windows and new lambs look beautiful. I bought this stuff months in advance.”

The holiday house gained widespread attention during the COVID-19 pandemic, when locals, seeking something to lift their spirits, asked if the lights could stay on. Jensen kept the lights on, and the public responded enthusiastically.

“People were really depressed,” he said. “They asked, ‘Could you keep the lights on?’ People were really down. It really surprised me.”

The popularity of the display soared when someone posted a video of the decorations on Instagram, causing it to go viral. Since then, the holiday house has drawn large crowds, with buses arriving during the holidays and Fox News covering the event multiple times. Jensen’s daughter now manages the social media accounts, and the display has garnered millions of views.

As Easter draws nearer, Jensen expects even more visitors, with fans on Instagram expressing excitement for the annual tradition.
