Banks in Jammu & Kashmir are set to observe extended holidays this week, starting today, March 27, for Shab-I-Qadr, continuing through Friday, March 28, for Jumat-ul-Vida, followed by the weekly Sunday off on March 30, and Ramzan Eid (Id-ul-Fitr) on March 31.
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) releases an annual list of official bank holidays, but these can vary by region due to local festivals and religious observances. Bank customers in Jammu & Kashmir should expect closures for Shab-I-Qadr today, and again on March 28 for Jumat-ul-Vida, along with the upcoming Ramzan Eid holiday on March 31, which is observed in most states except for Mizoram and Himachal Pradesh.
Notably, March 29 (Saturday) is not a holiday, as it falls on the fifth Saturday of the month, which is not typically observed as a bank holiday.
Bank Holiday Schedule This Week:
March 27, Thursday — Shab-I-Qadr (Jammu & Kashmir)
March 28, Friday — Jumat-ul-Vida (Jammu & Kashmir)
March 30, Sunday — Weekly Off (Across India)
March 31, Monday — Ramzan Eid (Id-ul-Fitr) (Most states, except Mizoram and Himachal Pradesh)
While banks will be closed on these dates, customers can still access ATMs, mobile banking, and online banking for transactions. However, transactions involving cheques or promissory notes will be unavailable due to the provisions of the Negotiable Instruments Act. It is advisable for customers to confirm the holiday schedule with their local bank branch in advance to make necessary arrangements.
