In observance of Eid-ul-Fitr, banks in Bangladesh will be closed for nine days starting March 28, as announced in a circular issued by Bangladesh Bank on March 24.
However, some branches in industrial zones will remain operational on March 28-29 to ensure timely salary and bonus payments to garment workers, as well as to facilitate export-import transactions. These services are especially important in areas with a significant garment industry presence, including Dhaka, Ashulia, Tongi, Gazipur, Savar, Bhaluka, Narayanganj, and Chattogram.
According to the circular, all scheduled bank branches will also remain closed on April 3 in line with the government-declared holiday for Eid-ul-Fitr.
Branches that stay open on March 28-29 will operate under special hours. On Friday, March 28, they will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., with transactions available from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. On Saturday, March 29, the branches will remain open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with transactions conducted from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Bangladesh Bank has emphasized the need for adequate security at these branches during the operating hours. Additionally, guidelines have been issued for paying allowances to staff working during the holiday period.
