As the holiday season wraps up, many people are faced with the task of taking down their holiday decorations. A recent poll conducted by KRQE Albuquerque revealed when most viewers begin the post-holiday cleanup.
Over 64% of respondents reported that they start taking down their decorations at the beginning of January, with 25% opting to do so right after New Year’s Day. Another significant group waits until January 6th, Three Kings Day, to tidy up their festive displays.
Interestingly, some viewers waste no time, with many beginning the task as early as the weekend after Christmas. One viewer even shared, “Dec. 26. Done and put away,” while others prefer not to wait for New Year’s and begin dismantling their decorations before the year ends.
For a small group, holiday cheer extends well into the new year. A few people reported leaving their decorations up through January or even February. One viewer expressed their attempt to keep the festive atmosphere alive, saying, “Trying to convince my husband to keep the outside lights up a bit longer.”
While most people follow traditional holiday decor patterns, some creative viewers recycle their decorations for multiple holidays. For instance, one individual turned their small tabletop Christmas tree into a Valentine Tree adorned with hearts.
Finally, there are a few who defy the seasonal norms, leaving their holiday decorations up year-round. One viewer shared, “I keep the tree, house decorations up, lights in the house, lights outside the house with a blow-up Santa and reindeer lit up. The neighbors [and friends] know. They say it looks cool. I like it.”
