Hospital Authority Expands GOPC Services for New Year to Ease A&E Pressure

by CiCi

The Hospital Authority (HA) has announced an enhancement of its general out-patient clinic (GOPC) services to meet the increased demand during the New Year holiday, aiming to alleviate pressure on Accident & Emergency (A&E) departments. A total of 15 GOPCs will remain open on January 1, offering public holiday services.

Patients seeking appointments can use the HA’s telephone appointment system or the “Book GOPC” function available through the “HA Go” mobile app.

In light of recent influenza and other infectious disease outbreaks at popular travel destinations, the HA is urging the public to take extra precautions during the holiday season. This includes monitoring their health, wearing masks in crowded places, and maintaining good personal hygiene. The winter months have also seen a rise in influenza and respiratory illnesses, further prompting the need for vigilance. Individuals exhibiting respiratory symptoms should wear masks and seek medical attention promptly.

The HA strongly encourages non-emergency patients to avoid A&E services and instead seek treatment at GOPCs, private doctors, or 24-hour outpatient services at private hospitals. This will help reduce the strain on public hospital A&Es. For additional information, the public can access the Health Bureau’s Primary Care Directory to find family doctors and related clinic services.

As the flu season coincides with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the HA also urges the public, particularly high-risk groups and travelers, to get vaccinated early for both seasonal influenza and COVID-19. This preventive measure will help reduce the risk of infection and prevent severe cases. For vaccination details, the public can refer to the Centre for Health Protection’s websites on COVID-19 vaccination and seasonal flu shots.

The HA also collaborates with the Spatial Data Office and the Lands Department to provide information on private healthcare facilities and clinics operating during the New Year holiday.
