Holiday Cheers and Reflections from McPhillips MLA JD Devgan

by CiCi

As the holiday season draws near, I find myself reflecting on the many meaningful connections and experiences that have defined this year in McPhillips. I am deeply grateful to all the constituents I’ve had the privilege of meeting, especially those who have reached out to my office with questions and concerns. Your engagement and commitment to improving our community are invaluable.

The holidays offer a special opportunity to celebrate and connect, and I was thrilled to welcome McPhillips constituents—especially students from Garden City Collegiate and Faith Academy—to the Manitoba Legislature’s Holiday Open House on December 7. The day was filled with festive decorations, joyful music, popcorn, candy, and, of course, the warm smiles of friends and family. A highlight of the event for many was seeing Santa and Mrs. Claus in the rotunda, which added a touch of magic to the festivities.

Another event that brought our community together was the United Fire Fighters of Winnipeg Annual Banquet and Ball, which I had the honor of attending last month. The United Fire Fighters of Winnipeg, representing over 1,600 active and retired firefighters and firefighter-paramedics, work tirelessly to protect and serve our community. I was proud to join my colleagues and UFFW members in raising awareness and support for the Never Alone Cancer Foundation—an important cause that supports firefighters facing cancer diagnoses.

In November, I also had the privilege of attending the Seven Oaks General Hospital Foundation Gala. The passion, commitment, and joy for the important work done at Seven Oaks were evident in the heartfelt speeches and presentations. We are incredibly fortunate to have such a leading-edge healthcare facility in our community, and I am constantly inspired by the extraordinary people who work there.

This year has been an inspiring one, as our government continues to deliver on promises to Manitobans. In the recent throne speech, our government reaffirmed its commitment to making life more affordable for families across the province. After the previous Progressive Conservative government allowed costs to rise, including rent and energy bills, we have taken action to freeze hydro rates for the next year—delivering on our promise to lower costs for Manitobans.

As we approach the end of the year, I want to thank all the constituents of McPhillips for their trust, support, and continued engagement. Your calls, visits, and meetings are crucial, and I value the opportunity to serve as your voice in the legislature. Your feedback and suggestions help shape the direction of our NDP government, and I will continue to advocate for your needs and concerns.

This holiday season, I wish you all many moments of joy, laughter, and cherished memories with loved ones. Whether you are celebrating old traditions or creating new ones, I hope the season brings warmth and happiness to you and your family. As always, my office is here to assist you, so please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns.

Wishing you a wonderful and festive holiday season!
