Attendees at Queenston Library’s Christmas wreath workshop on Sunday embraced their creative sides, crafting personalized holiday decorations under the expert guidance of florist Shannon Troupe.
For participants like Vanessa Larochelle, the workshop was an opportunity to step outside their comfort zones. “I’m not really crafty, so being able to do this is a little bit different for me and it’s nice,” said Larochelle. “I think it’s being taught well,” she added, reflecting on the welcoming atmosphere of the event.
Jennifer Mills shared similar sentiments, praising Troupe’s teaching style. “Shannon is doing a great job, she’s a great teacher. I’m having a great time,” Mills remarked as she worked on her wreath.
Troupe, owner of Lady Lavender Florals, led the session with her signature flair, providing attendees with materials like pine cones, dried fruits, and ribbons to create their own unique wreaths. Participants were encouraged to personalize their designs at the “wreath bar,” selecting from a wide range of decorative items to suit their tastes.
The event also featured a festive spread, including a hot chocolate bar, savory charcuterie cups, and non-alcoholic sangria, adding to the joyful holiday atmosphere.
Troupe, who has been a florist for five years and has hosted wreath workshops for two, expressed her delight at the community’s positive response. “Everyone seems to love it. No matter what, everything looks great — no matter if you feel like you’re not doing it right. Everyone’s looks so different, but so great at the same time,” she said.
With 25 of the 35 tickets sold at $80 each, the event was a hit. Looking ahead, Troupe plans to host more workshops, including a special Mother’s Day edition, continuing to offer creative outlets for the community to celebrate the changing seasons.
