The Rutland Winter Light Up event is set to bring festive cheer to the community this weekend, offering a variety of activities for all ages.
Hosted by the Uptown Rutland Business Association (URBA), the celebration will take place on Sunday, December 1, from 2:30 to 5 p.m. at Rutland Centennial Park. The event promises an exciting lineup, including an artisan market, craft stations, carol singing, live performances, and festive treats. Local sports fans will also enjoy a special appearance by the Kelowna Chiefs.
In keeping with the spirit of giving, the Salvation Army will be on hand to distribute chili and collect donations for those in need. The Central Okanagan Community Food Bank will also be accepting contributions throughout the event.
“This event is a true reflection of Rutland’s vibrant and inclusive community spirit,” said Navjit Khun Khun, president of URBA. “It’s the perfect opportunity for people to connect, celebrate the season, and spread some holiday joy.”
Santa Claus will make a special appearance for free photo opportunities, although those wishing to meet him must register online in advance.
The highlight of the afternoon will be the lighting of the 70-foot Christmas tree at approximately 4:15 p.m., with Mayor Tom Dyas performing the ceremonial lighting.
“We’re thrilled to see this beloved event return,” added Khun Khun. “It’s a chance to showcase local talent, celebrate Rutland’s charm, and create lasting memories for everyone who attends.”
The Rutland Winter Light Up is shaping up to be a festive occasion for all, marking the perfect start to the holiday season.
