Jiading District Sees Surge in Cultural and Consumer Activity During National Day Holiday

by CiCi

Jiading District experienced a significant uptick in its cultural and tourism sectors during the weeklong National Day holiday, resulting in increased consumer spending. The district’s Culture and Tourism Bureau reported that its nine A-level tourist attractions welcomed a total of 491,410 visitors, generating approximately 1.22 million yuan (US$171,315) in ticket sales.

Popular attractions included the newly renovated Yongan Pagoda and engaging activities at Guyi Garden, both of which drew large crowds. The cultural landscape of Jiading was further enriched by a variety of events held throughout the week, including the 2024 Jiading Tourism Festival, Yuangxiang Lake Art Month, and the Nanxiang Guochao (China-chic) Festival. Notably, nine performances were staged at prominent venues such as the Shanghai Poly Grand Theater, Jiading Theater, and Mahua FunAge.

The district’s nightlife thrived as well, highlighted by the “2024 Budweiser Storm Electronic Music Festival,” which took place on October 2 and 3 and attracted around 40,000 music enthusiasts. Iconic sites like the Fahua Pagoda and Jiading Confucius Temple extended their hours of operation and provided interactive experiences for visitors.

Consumer activity surged during the holiday period, supported by various consumption vouchers and trade-in programs for vehicles, household appliances, and furniture. From September 30 to October 6, sales at 23 major commercial complexes in Jiading reached an impressive 1.63 billion yuan.

Commercial establishments enhanced the shopping experience through themed activities and promotions. Xiyunlou, for instance, offered a free shuttle service to the “Storm Electronic Music Festival,” while Life Hub@Anting collaborated with traditional cultural organizations to promote consumer engagement.

In total, ten major commercial complexes in Jiading reported over 2.16 million visitors and generated sales exceeding 327 million yuan during the seven-day holiday period ending October 6.

Additionally, gold sales surged due to the peak wedding season coinciding with the holiday, while sales of automobiles and home appliances saw a dramatic increase, largely attributed to trade-in incentives. The catering industry also rebounded swiftly, buoyed by discount coupons, with trends like regional flagship stores and niche dining options gaining popularity, injecting fresh vitality into the food and beverage sector.
