Indian Consumers Ready to Travel and Spend Big This Holiday Season

A recent study by American Express reveals that an overwhelming 97% of Indians are gearing up to travel during the upcoming festive season, with 33% having already secured their travel plans. The findings from the Amex Trendex India indicate that leisure remains the primary motivation for travel, cited by 63% of respondents, followed by a desire to explore new destinations (54%) and reconnect with family and friends (27%).

Moreover, 94% of Indian travelers expressed a willingness to spend more for a convenient and enjoyable travel experience. The study highlights a trend toward utilizing travel credit card rewards, airline miles, or loyalty points, with 73% of participants indicating they are leveraging these options to manage costs. While domestic travel continues to be favored, with 88% opting for trips within India, international travel is also appealing to 61% of respondents.

In addition to travel plans, Indian adults are focusing heavily on holiday shopping and gifting. A staggering 98% of respondents plan to purchase gifts this season, with family (73%) and friends (65%) identified as the primary recipients. Popular gift categories include clothing and accessories, each chosen by 73% of respondents, followed by tech products at 55%. Notably, 66% of Indians are also opting for experiences, such as entertainment and travel, as gifts.

The demand for unique and personalized gifts is clear, with 92% of consumers actively seeking distinctive items, while 88% prefer shopping at stores that offer reward programs. The study indicates that many Indians are taking advantage of holiday discounts (64%) and sales events (59%), with 49% specifically searching for credit card offers to enhance their gift-buying experience.

The global survey encompassed participants from multiple countries, including India, Australia, Canada, Japan, Mexico, the United Kingdom, and the United States, providing a comprehensive view of consumer behavior during this festive season.
