The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) has declared that Sunday, September 15, 2024 (12 Rabi al-Awwal 1446H), will be a paid public holiday for private sector employees in the UAE to commemorate the birthday of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
Employees required to work on this day are entitled to a compensatory day off or, if they choose to work, must receive a full day’s salary plus an additional 50% of their basic pay for the holiday hours. Should circumstances necessitate work on public holidays, employees are also eligible for either a substitute rest day or extra pay at the same rate.
The Federal Authority for Government Human Resources has similarly announced a public sector holiday for the occasion. The observance of Prophet’s birthday on 12 Rabi’ Al-Awwal is a tradition in many Islamic nations, including those in the Gulf region.
Following this holiday, UAE residents can look forward to an extended break for National Day on December 2 and 3, creating a four-day weekend when combined with the regular Saturday-Sunday break.
