Cologne Airport has announced it successfully managed 1.7 million passengers during the peak summer holiday period, which spanned approximately six and a half weeks.

The airport’s busiest day occurred on the first Sunday of August, with 43,000 passengers processed. The final weekend of the summer saw around 120,000 travelers passing through the airport.

The top vacation destinations from Cologne Airport this summer included:

Turkey: 500,000 passengers

Spain: 360,000 passengers

Italy: 141,000 passengers

Among specific destinations, the most popular were:

Antalya: 230,000 passengers

Palma de Mallorca: 191,000 passengers

Istanbul: 122,000 passengers

Cologne Airport’s CEO, Thilo Schmid, acknowledged the high passenger volumes and anticipated continued busy periods. “Summer vacations always lead to packed terminals and challenging weeks,” Schmid said. He expressed gratitude to the airport staff and partners for their efforts and announced expectations for continued high traffic into the fall.

“We anticipate more than one million passengers in September and October,” Schmid added.

The airport is poised for further growth with Marabu establishing a new base at Cologne, set to offer flights to the Canary Islands and Egypt. Additionally, Eurowings will launch new direct routes to Dubai starting October 28 and to Jeddah from November 5.

Overall, Cologne Airport has experienced a successful summer season, with promising prospects for the remainder of the year. The introduction of new flights and continued passenger growth will contribute to the airport’s strong performance through 2024.
