Hyderabad: Heavy rains accompanied by thunderstorms prompted several schools across Hyderabad to declare a holiday on Tuesday, as the city grappled with severe weather conditions that caused significant traffic disruptions on Monday night.
The unexpected downpour late Monday evening left many commuters stranded for hours as traffic came to a standstill, particularly in Secunderabad, Kukatpally, and Hitec City, where the situation was worsened by pothole-ridden roads and heavy congestion.
As a precaution, many schools across the city have decided to extend their holiday period, which initially began with Independence Day and Raksha Bandhan celebrations, through Wednesday. Parents were informed of the extension via WhatsApp, with schools prioritizing the safety of children amidst the ongoing weather concerns.
Authorities have advised commuters to stay indoors unless absolutely necessary, as Hyderabad remains on high alert for more heavy rains and thunderstorms expected on Wednesday.
