Holiday Declared for Schools and Colleges in Dakshina Kannada Due to Orange Alert for Rain

A holiday has been announced for all anganwadis, schools, and pre-university colleges (up to 12th grade) in Dakshina Kannada District of Karnataka today, August 1, 2024. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange Alert indicating the possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall in the district.

District Deputy Commissioner Mullai Muhilan issued a warning on Wednesday advising fishermen to refrain from venturing into the sea and urging the public to avoid low-lying areas. Muhilan emphasized the importance of taking necessary precautions to ensure safety during the heavy rainfall. Residents have been advised to stay indoors and follow official instructions to minimize risks.

“The district administration is on high alert, with emergency services and relief teams prepared to respond to any situation,” Muhilan told news agency ANI.

The IMD has forecasted very heavy rainfall in isolated areas across Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Mahe on July 31, and in Coastal Karnataka on August 1 and 2. South Interior Karnataka is expected to experience heavy rainfall from July 31 to August 2, 2024.

According to the IMD’s press release, heavy rainfall is likely in isolated places over Coastal and South Interior Karnataka from July 31 to August 4, Telangana on July 31, Kerala and Mahe on August 1 and 2, Tamil Nadu on August 1, and North Interior Karnataka from July 31 to August 2.

Residents are urged to stay vigilant and comply with safety measures to mitigate the impact of the severe weather.
