After a five-year hiatus, the beloved Macy’s Pink Pig train ride is making a comeback for the 2024 Georgia Festival of Trees, rekindling a cherished holiday tradition in Atlanta.
For nearly 70 years, the Pink Pig brought joy to children and families during the holiday season. This year, the revamped Pink Pig, now rail-less and circling through the festival, will make its debut on Nov. 22 during the Opening Night Gala of the Georgia Festival of Trees. The ride will be available at the Gas South Convention Center until Dec. 1, except on Nov. 27-28.
“It’s an honor to bring back the Pink Pig to a new generation of Georgians,” said Angie Ulibarri, Executive Director of the Georgia Festival of Trees, in a statement. “Macy’s Pink Pig™ has been an iconic symbol of the holidays in Atlanta, and it’s exciting to officially ring in the holiday season with this timeless tradition.”
The Pink Pig, first introduced in 1953, originally circled inside Rich’s, a former department store giant that closed in 2005. Rides on the new Pink Pig will cost $5 each.
The Georgia Festival of Trees will feature an auction of Christmas trees, wreaths, and other decorations to support two nonprofits combating human trafficking: Street Grace and Atlanta Redemption Ink. Festivalgoers can also enjoy live music, entertainment, sugar cookie decorating, boutique shopping, and more.
