In August 2024, banks across India will observe a total of 13 holidays. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has released the detailed list, which includes both national and state-specific holidays. Typically, banks are closed on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month, as well as on all Sundays, in addition to public and regional holidays.
National and State-Specific Holidays for August 2024
Bank holidays will vary depending on regional festivities and national observances. While national holidays, such as Independence Day, will affect banks nationwide, state-specific holidays will see bank closures only in the relevant states. Planning your bank visits in advance is essential due to the multiple holidays this month.
The RBI classifies bank holidays into three categories:
Real-Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) Holiday: RTGS services are available 24/7 throughout the year, including weekends and public holidays. This means funds can be transferred in real-time without requiring a bank visit.
Banks’ Closing of Accounts Holiday: Banks will be closed on Sundays, the second and fourth Saturdays of the month, as well as on national and regional holidays.
Negotiable Instruments Act Holidays: These holidays apply specifically to government departments and financial institutions, including banks and insurance companies.
