If you’re curious about the next public holiday in the UAE, you’ve come to the right place. Let’s take a look at the upcoming public holidays and, hopefully, some precious long weekends.
When is the Next UAE Public Holiday?
Under the guidance of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the UAE Cabinet released a comprehensive list of public holidays for 2024 at the end of last year.
The next public holiday is on the occasion of the Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) birthday, which falls on Rabi’ Al-Awwal 12. This year, it is expected to correspond to Sunday, September 15, 2024. Unfortunately, this means there won’t be a long weekend.
When Islamic New Year fell on Sunday, July 7, no additional day off was given. We’ll have to wait for the official announcement to see if a public holiday is granted on either the preceding Friday or the following Monday.
Upcoming Confirmed Public Holidays in the UAE
Following the Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) birthday, the next public holiday is the final one of the year: UAE National Day, now referred to as Union Day. According to the UAE Cabinet resolution, both the private and public sectors will enjoy a two-day holiday on December 2 and 3, which falls on Monday and Tuesday this year. This means a four-day weekend for those with regular weekends off.
