As June 22 approaches, customers planning to visit banks are advised to verify the operational status of bank branches, as it marks the fourth Saturday of the month, designated as a bank holiday by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
Under the provisions of the Negotiable Instruments Act and Real-Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) regulations, the RBI has specified certain holidays affecting both public and private sector banks. These include national holidays, state regional holidays, and crucially, the second and fourth Saturdays of each month, in addition to Sundays. Consequently, all banks will remain closed on June 22, 2024.
It is important for customers to be aware of variations in bank holidays across different states, as determined by the RBI.
Despite the closure of physical bank branches, customers can continue to conduct a range of financial transactions via mobile banking and net banking services on bank holidays. These services enable users to perform activities such as fund transfers through RTGS, NEFT, and IMPS, as well as withdraw cash from ATMs. Furthermore, bills for utilities and services, including gas and electricity, can be paid using bank accounts, even when physical bank branches are closed.
For more information on banking operations and services, customers are encouraged to check with their respective banks prior to visiting physical branches.
