In a recent update, the UAE government has published the official public holiday calendar for 2025, as detailed in UAE Cabinet Resolution No. 27 of 2024. This announcement, released through the Official Gazette, outlines the holidays for both public and private sectors in the coming year.
Confirmed Public Holidays for 2025
According to an article in Gulf News, the confirmed holidays for 2025 include:
- New Year’s Day: A one-day holiday on January 1, 2025 (Wednesday).
- Eid Al Fitr: A three-day holiday from Shawwal 1-3, with an additional day if Ramadan extends to 30 days (dates dependent on moon sighting).
- Arafat Day: One day off on Dhu Al Hijjah 9.
- Eid Al Adha: Three days from Dhu Al Hijjah 10 to 12.
- Islamic New Year: One day off on Muharram 1, with the Gregorian date to be confirmed.
- Prophet Mohammed’s (PBUH) Birthday: One day off on Rabi Al Awwal 12, with the Gregorian date to be confirmed.
- Commemoration Day and UAE Union Day: Two days off on December 2 and 3 (Tuesday and Wednesday) to honor Commemoration Day and celebrate the 54th UAE Union Day.
Weekend Holiday Adjustments
The resolution specifies that, with the exception of Eid holidays, any official holiday that falls on a weekend may be moved to the beginning or end of the week by a Cabinet decision. This ensures that residents and employees can fully benefit from their time off.
Additional Holidays
The resolution also allows for the possibility of additional holidays. Local governments have the authority to approve other official holidays for their departments and institutions on special occasions or for other reasons not specified in the resolution.
