Be Measles Aware This Easter School Holidays

by CiCi

If you’re planning a trip to the South West this Easter school holidays, it’s important to ensure you and your travel companions are protected against measles.

Measles cases have been active in the community, with several recorded since March 19, 2025. As a highly contagious respiratory virus, measles can spread rapidly, particularly in crowded areas.

If you’re heading south in the coming weeks, please be aware of the current risk and take the time to check your immunisation status for measles.

Measles is a vaccine-preventable disease that spreads through the air when an infectious person coughs or sneezes. Early symptoms include fever, fatigue, cough, runny nose, and sore eyes, followed by a red, non-itchy rash that typically starts on the face and spreads across the body. It can take up to 18 days for symptoms to appear after exposure.

If you’ve received two doses of the MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) vaccine, you’re likely protected. If you’re uncertain about your vaccination status, it’s a good idea to check with your GP or healthcare provider before you travel.
