Gift Vital Medical Equipment This Holiday Season

by CiCi

This holiday season, the Delta Hospital and Community Health Foundation is calling on the community to help raise funds for essential medical equipment that supports patients at Delta Hospital, Mountain View Manor, and Irene Thomas Hospice.

One such story comes from Shannon, who arrived at the Delta Hospital Emergency Department one evening in severe pain. New to British Columbia and navigating a new healthcare system, she found solace in the immediate and compassionate care she received. Diagnosed with gallstones after several tests, Shannon was quickly referred for further consultations, where Dr. Mata, a Delta Hospital surgeon, alleviated her months-long suffering.

No one anticipates an emergency visit, but when the unexpected happens, the need for timely, high-quality care is paramount. As Delta’s population grows and ages, healthcare demands continue to rise, and Delta Hospital must keep pace.

A Growing Community, A Growing Need

With over 40,200 patient visits last year, Delta Hospital’s emergency department is one of the busiest in the region, doubling its activity over the past five years. As the community expands, the hospital faces increasing pressure to meet the medical needs of an aging population, where every second counts in critical situations.

Shannon, now fully recovered, credits the Delta Hospital staff for their excellent care, especially the emergency team that first identified her condition. “I had visited other ERs for similar pain, but Delta was different. They took the time to figure out what was wrong, treating me with patience and kindness even when I was at my worst. I’m so thankful for them,” she says.

The Holiday Wish List

To continue providing top-tier care, the Delta Hospital and Community Health Foundation are raising funds for critical medical equipment. This year’s Holiday Wish List includes:

Electrocardiographs :Two units, $25,000 each. These devices are vital for performing quick and accurate heart assessments, enabling fast diagnoses.

Stretcher Chairs :Two units, $13,000 each. These adaptable stretchers are crucial for safely transporting patients through the ER for diagnostic tests like X-rays and CT scans.

“The Holiday Wish List addresses the most urgent needs of the Delta Hospital Campus of Care,” said Lisa Hoglund, Executive Director of the Foundation. “During the busy holiday season, it’s heartening to know that community members are generously contributing to ensure our staff have the best tools to deliver care.”

Thanks to a matching donation from Chemposite Inc., every donation made by December 31 will be doubled, up to $50,000.
