As the holiday season approaches, Wilfrid Laurier University is urging its community to show compassion by donating blood and saving lives. The university invites eligible faculty, staff, students, alumni, and friends to join its Partners for Life team and contribute to Canadian Blood Services during this critical time.
The winter months traditionally present a challenge for Canadian Blood Services in securing enough donations, as many potential donors are unavailable due to holiday plans. While half of Canadians are eligible to give blood, only one in 81 actually does. As a proud Partners for Life organization, Laurier has already met 73% of its annual blood donation target.
Those interested in donating can easily find a nearby clinic, with convenient locations in both Waterloo and Brantford. The Waterloo clinic, located at 94 Bridgeport Rd. E., offers flexible hours, including extended holiday hours on December 24, 26, and 31. In Brantford, mobile clinics will be hosted on December 3, 21, and 31, with appointments required in advance.
Laurier community members can also donate blood anywhere across Canada, and their contributions will count toward the university’s pledge goal. To book an appointment or check eligibility, visit the Canadian Blood Services website or call 1-888-2-DONATE for guidance from a nurse.
For those who cannot donate before the holidays, Laurier will hold an on-campus donation clinic on January 29, 2025, in the Senate and Board Chamber. Further details and booking information will be available in the coming weeks.
The university thanks all Laurier blood donors for their commitment to saving lives and making a significant impact on their communities. Your generosity is truly invaluable.
