Islamic New Year Holiday Announcement in UAE and Oman

by CiCi
The Islamic New Year, marking the beginning of the next Hijri year, is approaching. Authorities in Oman have declared Sunday, July 7, as a public holiday to observe this occasion across both public and private sectors.

In the UAE, however, no official announcement regarding a holiday for the Islamic New Year has been made yet. According to the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department, Muharram 1 is expected to fall on Saturday, June 6, pending moon sighting confirming the end of Dhu Al Hijjah on Friday.

While the UAE Cabinet has approved holidays such as the Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) birthday on Rabi Al Awwal 12, and National Day holidays on December 2 and 3, anticipation remains high for the official declaration of the Islamic New Year holiday.

Stay tuned for updates from the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources (FAHR) or the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation regarding the status of the Islamic New Year holiday in the UAE.
