In a move to commemorate this year’s Democracy Day, the Federal Government has declared June 12th as a public holiday. The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, through a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dr. Aishetu Ndayako.
The Minister congratulated Nigerians on the celebration, urging reflection on the efforts of the country’s founding fathers to ensure Nigeria’s unity, security, peace, and indivisibility. He emphasized the importance of upholding the principles of democratic governance and encouraged citizens to remain steadfast in this regard.
Tunji-Ojo also highlighted President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to implementing positive reforms aimed at reviving the nation’s economy and enhancing security. He called on Nigerians and friends of Nigeria to acknowledge the progress made and to anticipate a brighter future for Nigeria’s democracy.
As Nigeria observes Democracy Day, it serves as a reminder of the country’s journey towards democratic governance and the collective responsibility to uphold its values and principles.
